Musée des Ursulines
Housed in the former Ursulines convent, the museum preserves diverse collections providing an overview of art history from antiquity to the 20th century. Local archaeology and history are brought to light by pieces collected during excavation campaigns but also by new areas open to visitors in 2019, dedicated on the one hand to Alphonse de Lamartine’s literary and political work (1790-1869), born in Mâcon, and on the other hand to regional landscape artists of the 19th century. The Fine Arts section features masterpieces of Western art history from the 16th century to the present period: genre scenes and landscapes of the 17th-century northern schools, portraits and French mythological figures of the 17th and 18th centuries, 19th-century landscapes and Symbolist works, 20th-century post-cubist art and abstract - geometric movement.
